New Computer Music Class

Well, technically this class will be called Electronic Music, but that is because how it appears in the CPS course handbook. What you need to know is that we will be offering a brand new, exciting, class at Mather next year. This class will satisfy one of your art requirements (you need two to graduate).

Our class will meet in a computer lab every day and be very dependent on technology. If you are into computers and like music, this class may be for you. The Electronic Music class will be taught by Orchestra teacher Mr. Smith.

Here are some of the things that we will learn

Music Theory We will learn a bit about theory: how to read music, how to read and write rhythms, we'll learn about elements of music like pitch, tempo, texture, melody and harmony. This will help us fully understand and utilize the language that we will need to have to fully use the hardware and software that we'll be exploring.

Sound Editing We'll learn Audacity, a program that lets you record live sound and edit prerecorded sound clips. Create your own mashup.

Recording Onto a Computer We'll learn how to record voice and instruments onto a computer and what to do when you have the recording

Podcasting You will learn how to create, record and distribute your own podcast.

Creating Loops and Beats We'll learn how to actually compose music on the computer. You can make your own songs, loops or beats.

Using Sound in Other Applications By the end of the year you will be experts in creating music and sounds on the computer which you can use for anything. Create unique content for your movies, websites, blogs, Power Point presentation or even your own ringtones.

These are only the highlights. There will be much more!!

How to I Sign Up for the Electronic Music Class?

Soon, you will be registering for your 2015-2016 classes. Make sure to communicate with your counselor when you are programmed that you are interested in the Electronic Music Class. They will be able to let you know if you will be able to fit the class into your schedule.
